One of our earliest shirt models; the so-called Work Shirt Type II. The design was mainly inspired by the classic railroad work uniform back in the 1940s. One of the most distinct features is surely the left chest pocket with side aperture that’s designed for pocket watch safe keeping back in the day. The shirt was constructed using triple chain-stitch on every of its main seam. Ensuring the advanced durability level for the shirt construction. You can also enjoy the particular chain-stitch run-off thru the end of the body side seam. One of the genuine markings and homage to vintage work shirts.
The base fabric we utilized on this current iteration is no less special. We utilized 5 ounces indigo selvedge chambray for the main material. The fabric itself was woven in Yoshiwa Mills, Japan. Such a staple workwear fabric one should have in their rugged closet. This plain-woven fabric’s history can be traced back as far as the mid 1500s. Fast forward, the fabric made its way into widespread American use in 1901. Around the time when the US Navy first authorized the use of denim and chambray as their uniforms.
Chambray fabric is woven in a 1×1 plain weave construction. The particularity of chambray fabric comes from a colored warp yarn (indigo in this case) combined with a white or natural weft yarn. The white yarns running over the colored yarns give the fabric a certain depth. All of that, while maintaining a lighter weight. That’s one of the reasons why chambray fabric is so popular and widely used in the workwear realm. In a way that it offers the unique texture and appearance of denim, without the heft.
You know we pay close attention to the smallest detail. The shirt was trimmed using natural buttons that were made using a beautiful Trocas Shell. The buttons were directly sourced from and made in Japan. Yes, not those cheap n’ nasty plastic buttons you regularly see for sure. The look, and more importantly, the durability of natural buttons is unrivaled to the plastic / polyester ones.
