Imagine the year’s 1942. Steam engines hiss, boots thud on steel platforms, and somewhere along the line, a railman pulls on his work shirt before heading into the dust. We went back to a time when railworkers were the kings of the frontier — when every man needed a shirt that could stand up to soot & sweat all day. That’s the spirit we resurrected with the Work Shirt Type II.
The silhouette stays true to the old ways — regular fit, curved back yoke, round hem, and that offbeat pocket designed to carry a watch, a note, or a day’s grit.
THE DETAILS
Every seam triple chain-stitched like a lasso that won’t snap. Shell buttons made from Trocas, straight from Japan, no plastic imposters here. Stress points bar-tacked like a saddle cinched tight. And don’t miss the chainstitch run-off, a mark of true heritage craft. This shirt doesn’t talk loud — it lets its details whisper old stories.
This shirt ain’t meant to sit on a hanger, it’s made to work, made to wander, and made to wear the hell out!
THE FABRIC
The Work Shirt Type II is built from a 5 oz rope-dyed indigo chambray that hails deep in the belly of Yoshiwa Mills, Japan. Onee of the few places still weaving cloth the slow, precise way. This cloth is rope-dyed in rich indigo, meaning the core of the yarn stays white while the outside soaks in color. Over time, that dye chips away with wear — giving you a fade story that’s completely your own. At 5 oz, it’s light, but don’t let that fool you, it breathes. It holds its shape. And it gets better the more you beat it up.
The weave? Plain and honest — a 1×1 setup where each indigo warp crosses a white weft, over and over. The white yarns running over the colored yarns give the fabric a certain depth. All of that, while maintaining a lighter weight.
Chambray’s no stranger to hard work. It’s been riding shotgun in American workwear since the Navy put it on deck in 1901. Before that? It was strutting through Europe as far back as the 1500s. So yeah, you could say it’s earned its stripes.
