The Monsoon season is here! Weigh your anchor o’ seamen! The spirit of exploration, deeply ingrained in the human soul, has propelled countless adventurers across uncharted waters.
The Monsoon Selvedge is the pilot project of the Oldblue Groundworks. Seven years ago, we embarked on a challenging journey to weave our own denim fabric using traditional Toyoda shuttle looms, right here in Indonesia.
This path, though arduous, allows us to create something authentic, something that truly reflects the indomitable spirit of those who came before us.
THE FABRIC
The Monsoon Selvedge is a mid-weight 16 oz / sq. yds denim.
A hearty midweight denim, still raw and rugged straight from the loom. We’ve kept it pure, unfettered, like a wild untamed ocean. It’s constructed using indigo rope-dyed yarns. The yarns’ character falls into a more plain and classic kind of denim persona.
Of course, the denim fabric itself is far from perfect. Don’t expect this fabric to be as smooth as a calm sea. Ye might find a few rough patches and imperfections, just like the storms a sailor faces. But fear not, for these be the marks of a true adventure in the vast denim ocean.
THE DETAILS
We’ve plundered the shores of our own land for the finest materials to complement this seafaring denim. Our buttons be forged from brass, and the rivets from copper, all crafted by local hands. The leather patch, soft as a mermaid’s kiss,was comes from a local tanne hide. Natural vegetable tanned kind of leather. And the pocket lining? A hikcory fabric with splash of indigo as deep as the ocean, woven by local looms.
THE FIT
As we want to accommodate many builds also as the fabric is quite versatile. We decide to build ’em using both of our 8.25″ (slim straight) and 7.75″ (slim) Cut.
The 8.25” Cut that has a clean slim straight build. It falls nicely between the slim to the regular straight cut. It starts quite slim in its thigh area – hugging a little closer than a regular straight cut would be. And it has a nice and cleans straight silhouette down to its hem.
It has a medium rise build, so it will give you more room (read: more comfortable) on the top block. This cut has proven to be one of our most versatile ones that can caters various kinds of body types.
While the 7.75″ Cut is our current signature run of a classic slim-fitted jean cut. Maintaining the medium-rise built to keep the comfortable level where it won’t interfere you on doing your daily duty. The 7.75” Cut has a slight taper on the calves through the leg opening and features a slightly lower yoke.
